Joost Invitations available here

May 9th, 2007

Today, Newsweek released an interesting article.  The makers of Kazaa and Skype are now working with video.  Thier new project is called Joost.

If you load the free service, and you can watch video on demand.  They currently have several comedy channels and some stuff from MTV and National Geographic.  Soon, they will be showing CSI and other popular shows.  Watch what you want, when you want.

Want a Joost Invitation?  Until recently, they have not been releasing their access to the program unless you got a Joost invitation.  But now it is open to anyone.  Try it at http://joost.com/presents/gigaom-newteevee/.

What makes this different from anywhere else you can get video, such as YouTube or Google Video?  It makes use of peer-to-peer technolgy, which is a faster and more economical way to distribute information.  They are also signing on the major players, such as Viacom, Comedy Channel and CBS.

Personally, I don’t think there is much good content on it YET.

However, the idea of “TV on the Web” is definitely coming.  Better put, it will be “Video on demand”.

Tivo is nice.  But getting video “what you want and when you want” will change everything.
