Internet and Search Engine Usage in China and India

June 16th, 2007 View Comments

Over the last few weeks, some very interesting news has come out regarding the usage of the Internet and search engines in China and India.  Let’s compare some of the numbers with the United States.

UNITED STATES – 154 million regular Internet Users – 68% of population

CHINA - 150 million regular Internet Users – 10.5 % of population

INDIA – 25 million regular Internet Users – 7.5% of urban population

It’s pretty obvious that these countries have a lot of potential in the very near future to have a tremendous impact on the internet.  With the amazing popularity of user generated content, what will happen as these countries continue to have more and more regular internet users?  What will the Internet look and feel like when it trully becomes more and more of a “World Wide Web”.

If you find this interesting, Rand Fishkin has more about China and Gord Hotchkiss details how differently they use search engines.  Also, MarketingVox is reporting on the growth of India’s Internet usage including some great charts.
