Joost – Online and On-Demand TV is HERE!
More news on Joost today. TechCrunch announced that they have raised $45 million in a venture round of funding. Investors include CBS Corporation, Viacom, a Chinese billionaire, and others.
In fact, Viacom and CBS have signed content deals as well. This means Joost now has deals with WBTV, CNN, NHL, Sports Illustrated, and others.
As I mentioned earlier, they are also opening up Joost to everyone now. All of this is being announced just this month of May and it is only the tenth! It seems as if Joost is positioning itself as the primary online and on-demand tv provider for several major markets.
What does this all mean?
It’s just a matter of time before most all television is available online. If you go to the Museum of Television & Radio in New York City, you can already search through the museum’s collection of over 120,000 radio and telvision programs and advertisements. You can select what you want to watch and listen in a console room.
Why not open that up to everyone via the web? It’s just a matter of time, folks.
YouTube is sort of doing that, in an ad-hoc way, similar to the original Napster. So now the major networks should have learned by now. They can’t fight it. They need to embrace it.
What does this mean for advertisers? More about that later.
